The Studio

Practice

The studio is a space of introspection: a place where Gary steps back and Pico takes shape through the work.

Drawing, scraping, structuring and assembling are part of a continuous search: to give strength to fragile materials while preserving the traces of their earlier lives. Recycled paper and everyday objects are held within glue, wood resin and modelling paste. Their histories remain present in the layered surface; the artist's gesture adds a new one.

An earring, a cigar-shaped form assembled from pen fragments, a piece of paper: each becomes the bearer of a memory that the work extends. Through these acts of assembly and consolidation, Gary Pico explores the attachments, fragilities and tensions that take form in the work.
